On the flop things start to get a little more complicated in NLHE. Now you have the 3 community cards to connect your preflop cards with. I suggest you bet 3/4 pot every time you decide to make a bet on the flop, so if the pot is $8 on the flop, you make a $6 bet. What type of flops you decide to bet, check/call or fold depends a lot on you opponents as well as your actual cards of course. Here are so general rules to follow. continue reading…

As I told you a prior article, some positions at the table are better than others. Because of that you should play very few hands in the bad positions at the table, and a lot of hands at the good positions. The button and the cutoff are very good positions, and as you can see from the hand listing below we will play a lot of hands in these positions. I suggest you always come in raising when you are the first person to enter a pot, make a 4 times the big blind raise. Limping in is almost never a good idea in 6 max No Limit Holdem, I never do it at all. continue reading…

It’s time to learn the different game mechanics and what they are called in No Limit Texas Holdem. The three basic things you can do in the game is to call, raise or fold. Folding means throwing away your cards putting no more money into the pot. This is what you do if you don’t think you have the best hand and don’t think you can manage to bluff the other player. continue reading…

At a 6 max No Limit Texas Holdem table we have 6 positions. The position changes every hand as the button moves around the poker table. The player who is first to act preflop is called Under The Gun, UTG for short, and this is the worst position at the table.

The second player to act is usually called Middle Position, MP. On a 9 handed or 10 handed table, we have UTG+1, UTG+2, MP2 and MP3 as well. The cutoff is the position before the button, CO for short.

The best position at the whole table is the Button, BTN for short. The reason is that we are last to act on the last 3 betting rounds of the hand. Being last to act we get to see what all the other players do before we have to decide what to do, and this is a huge advantage.

2 players have to put money into the pot preflop in every hand. These are the blind positions, Big Blind and Small Blind, BB and SB for short. The big blind is usually twice the size of the small blinds. The blinds decide the stakes of the game. If you join say a $0.05/$0.10 poker game online, maximum buyin will be $10 and minimum $2, 100 and 20 times the big blind. Now lets look at part 7 of the guide with game mechanics and some more poker terms.

Poker is one of the most popular card games in the world and there are lots of different types of the game. This is a quick guide to poker so we will focus on the most popular poker game online, No Limit Texas Holdem 6 max, NLHE or just holdem for short, I will also refer to this game as just poker in the articles here. This is the last part of the guide for those who already know how to play the game of poker. All you need to do now is to find a good poker table to play at. Most poker players play at several tables at the same time, some over 20 at once! This takes some practice to do, so I suggest you start with only one table. Most poker sites have lots of different poker games and stakes available, and I suggest picking the game you’re most familiar with. For most people that would probably be no limit holdem. continue reading…
